Presentation of Gauche Démocratique et Sociale

The Democratic and Social Left (GDS) is a French socialist political organization founded in 2018 by Gérard Filoche, following his departure from the Socialist Party. After supporting Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the 2022 presidential election, GDS participated in the left-wing union formed by NUPES in the legislative elections. On January 31, 2025, the party announced that its members and those of L'Après had voted for a merger of the two movements into the second, stating that "This merger begins on January 1, 2025."
